Giải Oscar danh giá lần thứ 90 đã được trao cho các chủ nhân xứng đáng vào ngày chủ nhật vừa qua. Khi danh sách đề cử được công bố vào tháng 1, nhiều người nhận định giải thưởng năm nay sẽ là cuộc chiến giữa bộ phim viễn tưởng, The Shape of Water của đạo diễn Guillermo del Toro, Dunkirk của Christopher Nolan và Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri của McDonagh. Chiến thắng chung cuộc thuộc về bộ phim The Shape of Water khi thắng đến 4 giải, bao gồm Phim truyện xuất sắc nhất và Đạo diễn phim xuất sắc nhất.
Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri dẫn đầu ở hạng mục diễn xuất khi xuất sắc thắng hai giải gồm Nữ chính xuất sắc nhất cho Frances McDormand và Nam phụ xuất sắc nhất cho Sam Rockwell. Giải Nam chính xuất sắc nhất thuộc về Gary Oldman trong Darkest Hour và giải Nữ phụ xuất sắc nhất thuộc về Allison Janney trong I, Tonya.
Mọi sự chú ý trong lễ trao giải lần nãy cũng đổ dồn lên Greta Gerwig và Jordan Peele cho hai tác phẩm nặng ký được đề cử: Lady Bird và Get Out. Đáng tiếc, Lady Bird trắng tay trong mùa giải lần này nhưng Get Out giành giải Kịch bản gốc xuất sắc nhất.
